Fine Art Auction

Modern Art & Design Helsinki
5 November

Can anything be more magnificent than Birger Kaipiainen’s cornflower blue Beaded Bird? The mighty sculpture is certainly one of the highlights at the current Modern Art & Design auction in Helsinki. The same applies to Paavo Tynell’s table lamp TY 1005, Timo Sarpaneva’s glass sculpture Lansett II and Tapio Wirkkala’s half-metre long silver dish. They are part of the once again strong design department that also includes glass art by Oiva Toikka, furniture by Alvar Aalto, jewellery by Björn Weckström and much, much more. The auction offers a fine collection of wristwatches, including a Rolex Submariner in 18K gold from 1974. The art department offer two fine paintings by Juhani Linnovaara, the work Towards the Sky by Ilkka Lammi, Marjatta Tapiola’s expressive Skull and Crow, and Nanna Susi’s extremely impressive painting Teatro privato. This is just a sample of what is on offer this autumn. A warm welcome to Stockholms Auktionsverk Helsinki!
