Dated by inscription to the 8th year of Jiaqing, corresponding to 1803 and of the period. Distemper on silk, with calligraphic inscription in Chinese, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan.
The figure of Amitayus is seated in dhyanasana atop a lotus throne. His hands held in dhyana mudra, supporting the kalasha, a vessel overflowing with the elixir of life, the body of deep-red complexion wearing a dhoti and jewels draped across the bare chest. The deity surrounded by gold-crested temples in a mountainous landscape, the two upper corners accented with 16 smaller representations of Amitayus and one Amitabha. The two bottom corners painted with a Green and a White Tara, all mounted with four layers of gold brocade in dark blue, yellow, light blue and red. The back lined with Imperial yellow silk.
The inscription in Chinese, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan languages dated 1803:
On the first day of the fourth month of the eighth year of Jiaqing, a lama-artist from Zhongzheng Hall painted an image of the blessed Tsepame by official decree. In Manchu he is called Mohun Akhu Drala Phunga Phu Chihi, in Mongolian he is called Dragla Shi Ughe Nasu Thupur Han, in Chinese he is called Duwu Liang She'u Pho.

PROVENANCE:
Gösta Ekeström (1924-2012), probably purchased the thangka in China during the 1950s' when Ekeström worked at Sahlén shipping group. Thence by decent.
