PROVENANCE:
From the collection of Peter Karberg (1840-1922), thence by descent to the present owner.
He was the son of Christian Karberg who owned Karberg Shipping Company. They had several ships who sailed under the Hong Kong flag. Peter started to work at the company’s Hong Kong office in the 1860’s, in 1866 he founded an import/export company together with Jacob Arnold. Arnold, Karberg & Co became and important company who traded in all sorts of goods.
