BLAEU, J. Britannia Prout Divisa Suit Temporibus Anglo-Saxonum, Praesertim Durante Illorum Heptarchia. Amsterdam ca 1645.
Engraved map showing England during the Anglo-Saxon period with figurative cartuche in colour embellished by a crown and two wide borders in colour on each side of the map, depicting the kings of Saxon history and historical scenes. Latin text on verso. Ca 415 x 530 mm.
Some soiling. Centrefold as issued. Some slight staining to lower margin.
The map shows England divided into the seven Saxon kingdoms, each decorated with its coat-of-arms. Scotland and Wales, are also shown with their arms.
The vignettes flanking two sides are identical in subject matter to those used by Speed in 1611, but here made in a "Dutch miniature-style" (Shirley 549).
