Flora Danica is often called one of the most beautiful work on the flora of North Europe, forming the most extensive representation of the Scandinavian flora. It started in 1761 and was issued with plain or hand-coloured plates and was published over a period of 122 years with 3240 engraved folio plates which depicts plants of North Germany, Denmark, Norway and to a certain extent Sweden.
Oeder (1728-91) was the first director of the Danish Botanical Garden and edited the first 10 fasciculos.

Provenance: Karl Joar Westman (1939-2022), Swedish lawyer and banker, also an entrepreneur in India and Sri Lanka. He was a devoted collector of antiques, paintings, sculpture, arts and crafts and not least of books. He was the son of the minister and professor K. G. Westman and his wife Margit, née Printz.
