NEW CONTEMPORARY DESIGN JAN KLINGLER, "Bacteria Wall Lamp ", lamp, Jan Klingler Designs 2019, every bacterial pattern is unique, resin, bacteria, technical equipment, blue, red and off-white, height 80 mm, diameter 190 mm
This wall lamp uses bacteria to capture memories. Its unusual patterning and colouring is the result of a bacterial sample, whose natural cultures develop over a period of hours. Every person and place has its unique microbiological fingerprint. The idea is to take samples from places or people with personal meaning - a family member, the location of the first date - which are then grown into a unique piece in the form of commissioned work.
After a growth period of twenty four to fourty eight hours the microorganisms are fully sealed to stop the growth and they are captured in stasis. Their unique patterns are visually highlighted by an LED light source that is incorporated into the custom wall holder.
