Handcoloured engraved map with sea monster, a Japanese junk and a Dutch galleon, elaborated title cartouche, c. 345x450 mm. French text on verso, with a description of Japan. Paper browned, centrefold, margins with some minor tears, browned.

First issued as one of the new maps in the expended Mercator-Hondius Atlas Sive Cosmographia published 1606-36. Based on the Ortelius-Texeira map.
The map shows the Japanese main islands of Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku, Korea is displayed as an island.
