Later half calf bindings, gilt spines with red labels, worn and rubbed, split inner joint to vol. I, 20th c. endpapers, Some slight foxing, some small stains to margins of first pages in vol. III. Copy of Thore Virgin and with his signature on flyleaf dated 1927 in vol I. According to pencil note bought at B. Quaritch in 1927. 3 vols.

James Fenimore Cooper, (1789-1851), first major American novelist, author of the novels of frontier adventure known as the Leatherstocking Tales, The Pioneers (1823), The Last of the Mohicans (1826), The Prairie (1827), The Pathfinder (1840), and The Deerslayer (1841). His first novel was The Spy, a tale about counterespionage set during the Revolutionary War and published in 1821.
