EARLY MAP OF LONDON. BELLEFOREST, FRANÇOIS DE (BELLE FOREST). La Ville de Londres - Londinum Feracissimi Angliae Regni Metropolis. Paris 1575.

Woodcut map of London, c. 320x485 mm. Some minor spotting to centrefold, some folds and creases, minor foxing to margins, a few minor holes.

Rare woodcut edition based on the Braun & Hogenberg plan of London from 1572. The map shows the Tower and London Bridge, which is the only bridge across the Thames. On the south side of the river is also a arena for bear-baiting. In the foreground are four figures in traditional dresses. Both the coat-of-arms of the City of London and the Royal are shown.

From Belleforest atlas La Cosmographie Universelle de Tout le Monde, 1575.
