DEDICATION COPY. BERG, ALBAN. Vier Stücke für Klarinette und Klavier. (Opus 5). Wien - New York, Universal-Edition 1924 (U. E. 7485). With a dedication on the title page signed "Alban and ?" to Paul von Klenau dated 11 February 1935.
Folio (330x265 mm.). 10 pp.
Original printed blue-green wrappers, partly worn and soiled, some minor tears and creases, bumped inner corner, note in pencil with red cross (Widmung), blue stamp on wrapper of the composer Paul von Klenau Köbenhavn V.
This is a later edition. The first edition of this chamber music piece was published in 1913 (number 242), but first performed in 1919 at the "Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen" in Vienna which his beloved teacher, Arnold Schönberg, arranged. This music was also dedicated to him.
Alban Maria Johann Berg (1885-1935), Austrian composer, who wrote atonal and 12-tone compositions that remained true to late 19th-century Romanticism. He composed orchestral music (including Five Orchestral Songs, 1912), chamber music, songs, and two groundbreaking operas, Wozzeck (1925) and Lulu (1937). (Encyclopaedia Britannica.)
Paul August von Klenau (1883-1946), Danish-born composer and conductor who worked primarily in Germany and Austria. He was a friend of Alban Berg.
