Original brown blind-stamped calf, worn, faded spine, redspeckled edges, new inner doublures and endpapers (Watkins binder). Some dampstaining in upper margin in beginning and at end. Signature of Joel Eriksson in upper margin of title. Very rare.

The printing of the OldTestament in Mongolian, translated by Edward Stallybrass, William Swan and Robert Yuille, started at Selenginsk in 1834, where apparently only printing of the first edition of Genesis was finished. In April 1835 the printing press was moved to Khodon. The Old Testament was issued in separate parts. A few copies of the complete Old Testament were apparently sent to London and bound there. In 1840 the mission was suppressed by an Imperial Ukase. When Stallybrass and Swan left Siberia in early 1841, they left behind not only the press and all its equipment, but most, if not all, of the remaining copies of the printed Old Testament.

Joel Eriksson (born 1890), of the Swedish Mongol Mission, with his assistant Daste Tjub, commissioned by the British and Foreign Bible Society at a missionary conference in Kalgan 1935 to undertake a thorough revision of the New Testament and, in cases considered justified, an entirely new translation of the four Gospels.
