Size about 335x490 mm. Latin text on verso with first initial coloured. Visible centrefold as usual, slight wear to the middle. Mounted in passepartout.

Van den Broecke 161.1 (with key letters added for the monsters). Latin edition with page number 103 (500 copies printed). The Iceland map was first published in 1587.

From the atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, first edition printed 1570 by Abraham Ortelius´ (1527-98).
The map was drawn by a Danish mapmaker, Anders Sorensen Velleius (or Vedel). It also has many interesting details such as polar bears playing on ice floes, or hunting foxes ("Here is clever hunting by foxes, that inspect birds nests and destroy them" or "The Hekla, perpetually condemned to storms and snow, spews stones under terrible noise", translation from the Latin text).
