8:o (about 185x112 mm.). (24), 1-148, 193-352 (pp. 149-192 omitted in pagination) pp. 1 large folding engraved map of Beijing (tear in inner margin), 1 folding engraved plate (with 2 subjects).
Contemporary brown full calf, somewhat worn, some small cracks in the joints, sparsely gilt spine in five compartments, red spine label, marbled edges. Mended in the hinges. Two leaves discoloured in outer margins.
Minor foxing. Armorial bookplate of Rainald Knightley.

Rainald Knightley, 1st Baron Knightley (1819-1895), known as Sir Rainald Knightley, 3rd Baronet, from 1864 to 1892, was a British Conservative Party politician. In 1892 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Knightley, of Fawsley in the County of Northampton.
