Publisher´s black cloth, decorated in gilt, i.a. with a Chinese gentleman on front cover, skilfully mended in the joints, gilt spine, gilt edges. Some foxing.
Löwendahl: China illustrata nova. Supplement, 1765.
The contributors adopt the device of assuming a foreigh nationality in order to make fun of contemporary Parisian manners and custom.
"Les Chinois a Paris", pp. 121-146, with one plate, was written by Joseph Méry in a form of a letter by "I-Sian-seng", a Chinese doctor.
