Troisième voyage de  Cook, ou  voyage  à l'Océan Pacifique, ordonné par le roi d'Angleterre, pour faire des découvertes dans l'hémisphère nord, pour déterminer la position & l'étendue  de  la côte ouest  de  l'Amérique septentrionale, sa distance  de  l'Asie, & résoudre la question du passage au nord. Exécuté sous la direction des Capitaines Cook, Clerke & Gore, sur les vaisseaux la Résolution & la Découverte, en 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779 & 1780. Traduit  de  l'anglois, par M. D. 8vo (195x120 mm), atlas (plate volume) in 4to (255x200 mm). 1 folding table (in the appendix vol. 8). Title atlas volume with engraved vignette. 1 large folding engraved map and 87 partly folding or double page engraved plates and maps (complete, large map with dampstains to upper margin affecting text, browning to folds, small hole in the middle, all plates and maps with dampstain in the upper part, some minor tears, some spotting and soiling, a few maps reinforced on verso, some soiled or worn margins).

Contemporary full calf bindings, partly worn, slightly warped covers, some inner joints split, vol 7 bumped to one corner, richly gilt spines in compartments and red and black title labels, some with damages to upper parts of spines, one with partly split joint, marbled edges. Atlas in contemporary half calf, partly worn, partly with split joints, gilt spine, damaged to upper and lower edges. Vol. I and II partly dampstained, some minor spotting and soiling, vol. 3 with slightly trimmed title, annotation on flyleaf to second volume, and signatures on first free endpaper to volume 5, first endpaper in vol. 4 torn. Title to atlas with some spotting. 9 volumes.

First French edition in 8vo (by Panckouck). The end of the voyage was written by captain James King.

A narrative of James Cook's third and final voyage of exploration, during which the navigator visited New Zealand, Polynesia (Tonga and Tahiti), discovered the Hawaiian Islands (January 1778), and explored the north of the ocean Pacific: Nootka Pass, British Columbia Coast (Canada), Alaska Peninsula, Aleutian Islands and Bering Strait. On February 14, 1779, Captain James Cook was murdered by natives of Hawaii.
