Description

ROYAL AUTOGRAPH IN ORIGINAL TIN CASE. CHARLES X (Charles Philippe, 1757-1836), king of France 1824-1830.

Document (letters patent) on vellum with a small coat-of-arms in wash colours, 32 lines, signed Charles, and dated 1829, together with large green wax seal on cord aside (DS). The seals of green wax, characterize acts of perpetual value. Letters patent instituting a majorat consisting of a castle located in Montjay (near Melun) for the Viscount Felix René Chabenat de Bonneuil, Esquire. Also signed by the politician and lawyer Pierre-Alpinien Bourdeau (1770-1845).
The document is housed in its original tin case, c. 505x45 mm, with an extra space for the seal (slight wear, some bumps).
Size of document c. 435x617 mm, the seal 120 mm. Document folded once, slightly creased, the coat-of-arms with the blue colour almost worn off, seal with some slight wear, small part missing to upper part. Some notes on verso of the document.

Charles X (Charles Philippe, 9 October 1757 - 6 November 1836) was King of France  from 16 September 1824 until 2 August 1830. For most of his life he was known as the Count of  Artois  (comte d´Artois). He was overthrown in July 1830 by the very short Parisian Revolution (Les Trois Glorieuses) and Louis Philippe I was elected instead. Exiled once again, Charles died in 1836 in  Gorizia, then part of the  Austrian Empire. He was the last of the French rulers from the senior branch of the House of Bourbon and brother of Louis XVI.
