DIONYSIUS PERIEGETES. De situ orbis. Venetiis (per Christoferum de Pensis dictu[m] Mandello) 1498.
4:o (about 214x155 mm.). (32, last blank) leaves, 29 lines, roman letter, printed marginalia, 4- to 8-line initial spaces with printed guides.
Later (early 19th century) brown half calf, marbled boards, somewhat worn, gilt spine in five compartments. First leaf slightly soiled with small hole (not affecting title), lower corner of leaf f3 torn, small marginal holes on leaf h1-h3, last 2 leaves somewhat stained. Minor spotting.

Originally published in 1477, this is the third Latin edition of the Greek author´s description of the known world, probably written about A.D. 120, chiefly after Eratosthenes (c. 275-194 B.C.), taking little account of subsequent discoveries. The list of "Insulae Asiae seu provinciae" on h2 verso and h3 recto includes "Serica" and "Sine".
