Folio (c. 368x276 mm.). (14), (120) pp. 60 handcoloured stipple engravings (partly watermarked 1796, each with one leaf of descriptive text in English and French, some foxing to text, 3 leaves harder, minor foxing to plates, text partly somewhat discoloured by plates).
Contemporary brown half calf, worn, bumped corners, faded gilt spine, uncut. Engraved armorial bookplate with the device "Celberrima insula ortus".

Löwendahl: China illustrata nova, 710. First edition of the first of Miller´s series of costume books. The plates were engraved by J. Dadley, purportedly after drawings by a Cantonese artist by the name of Pu-Qùa, and depict Cantonese tradesmen and women.
