HABERMANN, JOHANN. Vita Christi, Das leben und die gantze Euangelische Historia von Jesu Christo, Gottes un(d) Marie Sohn, unserm einigen Erlöser und Seliger. In Schöne Kunstreiche Figuren unnd kurtze Sprüche aefasset, sampt sehr nützlichen Gebetlein, für fromme Christen gestellet. Prag (bey Michael Peterie) 1588.
Small 8:o (about 133x77 mm.). Title and 169 leaves, all within handcoloured engraved figurative frames, and 150 engravings in text, in colour and gold.
Later (late 19th century) black calf, gilt inner borders, gilt edges of covers, spine in six compartments, all edges gilt. Title laid down and somewhat worn, 15 leaves reinforced in the margins, about 10 leaves with partly mended tears, about 15 leaves with small holes or minor mendings. Some foxing.
Johann Habermann, also known as Johannes Avenarius (1516-1590) He went over to the Lutheran Church about 1540, studied theology, and filled a number of pastorates. After a brief academic activity at Jena and Wittenberg, in 1575, he accepted a call as superintendent of Naumburg-Zeitz. He died at Zeitz 1590.
