4:o (c. 310x230 mm.). (9), x-xxxviii, (2), (1)-175, (1 blank) pp. 1 large folding engraved plate with grey wash.
Contemporary green calf, only slightly worn, the covers with three gilt borders, with gilt guirlandes or meander decorations, both boards gilt stamped with the initials "EA" under Royal Crown (Eugene de Beauharnias and his wife), inner dentelles, richly gilt spine with red label, all edges gilt. Some foxing. Bookplate of J. L. du Temple de Rougemont.

Eugène Rose de Beauharnais (1781-1824), French general in the Napoleonic Wars and Viceroy of Italy, son of Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie, later wife of Napoleon and Empress of the French. Eugene de Beauharnais married Princess Augusta Amelia of Bavaria (1788-1851), daughter of Maximilian I of Bavaria. Their oldest daughter, Josephine of Leuchtenburg (1807-1876) was married to the Swedish Crown Prince, later king Oscar I.
