VELLUM PRINTING. (HEURES IMPRIMÉES - HEURES Á L´USAGE DE ROME). Paris (Philippe Pigouchet) about 1500.

8:o (about 152x103, textual area 130x60, with borders [close cut in upper margin with some loss of the border]135x86 mm.). Printed on vellum. (116) ll (not complete, including title, anatomical man and 6 calendar leaves), signed Aa1-8Bb1-10a1-7(lacks one leaf) g1-4b1-8c1-8d1-8e1-8f1-8h1-8i1-8k1-4A1-8B1-8C1-3(lacks 5 leaves)D1-8. 22 lines. With 17 almost full-page metal cuts, 26 small cuts of saints and scenes from the life of Christ. With 4-piece borders to each page including birds, flowers, dragons (?) and other motifs. Initials and capitals supplied in gold on red or blue ground. 1 leaf with long vertical cut in outer margin, 1 leaf with mended tear. Last leaf cut in lower part and filled out with paper. Some foxing, spotting, and soiling.

Later (early 17th century) red calf, somewhat worn, richly gilt cover with gilt inner borders, gilt edges of covers and richly gilt spine in six compartments, all edges gilt. Bookplate of Syston Park and John William Pease. In a new cloth box.

The last leaf has following annotation in the lower part "printed in Paris by Philippe Pigouchet. Quaritch notes".

Provenance: From the library of Ove Hassler (1904-87), Dean in Linköping, Sweden, and his son, Eivind Hassler (1939-2009).
