Description

ON TEA IN FINE BINDING. MARQUIS, F. (the younger). Du Thé ou Nouveau traite sur sa culture, sa récolte, sa préparation et ses usages. Paris (Nepveu, Audot, Marquis) 1820.

16mo (145x90 mm). 124 pp. 10 hand-coloured engraved plates (complete, of which 6 are double-page, some slight spotting to margin, text partly foxed). Original pink decorated wrapper and spine withbound (folds and repair to spine).
Fine leather binding which has been lacquered, decorated with different motifs from Asia in colour, spine with gilt title, as inner doblures 2 different woodcuts with motif from Asia, binding only slightly worn (bound by M. Lesieur). Text untrimmed. Labels from F. Marquis´ firm and 1 label from a Paris´ tea shop pasted on flyleaves. In a modern marbled paper case.

With 6 plates shows different phases of tea production, and 4 botanical plants. Published the same year as the first edition in 8vo which consists of only 68 pp. A second edition was published 1834.
