ROYAL AUTOGRAPH. MARIE-ANTOINETTE (1755-93), French Queen. Document signed by Marie Antoinette on vellum (DS), dated Versailles, August 12, 1784, also signed by Despriez, the Secretary to the Household of the Queen.
Folio (330x500 mm). Document on vellum,, 17 lines, signed in full by Marie Antoinette, above "Par La Reine", with royal paper seal with the king´s crown, the Fleur de Lys and other symbols on the royal stamp. A confirmation for Jean Baptiste Charles Joseph David de Princay that he had completed the necessary formalities to become one of the Gentlemen in Waiting to the ordinary Household of the Queen. Also with the mentioning of the princess of Lamballe. On verso, the registration of the document with the date and a signature (document slightly worn, folded, and with some minor soiling).
Princess de Lamballe or princess Maria Teresa of Savoy-Carignan (Marie Thérèse) (1749-92) married to Louis Alexandre de Bourbon-Penthièvre, Prince de Lamballe. She was the confidante and superintendent of the household of queen Marie Antoinette and was killed in the massacres of September 1792 during the French Revolution.
