Contemporary vellum, partly worn, spines with two red morocco labels, partly damaged, one with text "AD USUM REGINAE" and the other with the authors name and volume number. Minor foxing. Signature of Gustavus Bielke on title to vol. I. Engraved armorial bookplate with the device "Fide et forti dine". Handwritten old library signum on first endpapers J.6.41 and J.6.43. 2 volumes.

Guido Bentivoglio (Ferrara, 1579 - 1644). A Catholic history of the Dutch Revolt by Cardinal Guido Bentivoglio, an Italian statesman and historian. Interestingly, although the author was a disciple of Galileo, he was one of the Inquisitors who signed his condemnation.
