Later (early 19th century) brown half leather, worn, blank spine. Partly dampstained in the margins or upper part, some foxing. Pages (1)-4 cut in the outer margins, pp. (1)-2 also cut in lower margin. Bookplate "Ex libris Africanis G Carleton Jones".
Filippo Pigafetta (1533-1604) was an Italian mathematician and explorer. His "Relatione del reame del Congo" (1591) was translated into English, Latin, French, and German.
Duarte Lopes, Portuguese trader to Congo and Angola, who wrote one of the earliest descriptions of Central Africa.
