Later (mid 18th century) brown half leather, somewhat worn, gilt spine, speckled edges. Minor foxing. Old signature on inside of upper cover "J. B. Balbij med. prof.ri".
Pritzel 1834*. First edition. The "Flora Malabarica" is an index to Rheede tot Drakenstein's "Hortus Indicus Malabaricus", which made access to this 12-volume work much easier.
In ancient times, the term Malabar was used to denote the entire south-western coast of the Indian peninsula. But today, Malabar is only used for the former Malabar district, or northern districts of Kerala state.
