A CIZHOU PAINTED MEIPING VASE, heavily potted with high sloping shoulders, the sides decorated with three quatrefoil panels depicting a scholar in a landscape, a crane standing amidst grasses and a resting hare between foliate scroll borders below and above, all in brown on a cream white slip under a clear glaze, marked with label ´Spink & Son, Est 1772´, Ming dynasty (1368-1644), height c. 24 cm
PROVENANCE:
From the collection of the Principal Sture Nydell (1891-1986) and his wife, Valborg Nydell (1905-2003). The vase was purchased from ´Spink & Son´ in London. Earlier in the collection of Lady Paget.
