HISTORY
The housing department with the nine residential buildings was the result of a housing competition ahead of the exhibition. The architects involved had not only designed their respective houses but, in most cases, also the furniture in them. Villa 49 was designed by Sven Markelius, it was designed for a family of 3 - 4 people with an annual income of 6,500 - 12,000 SEK. It had a clear and simple floor plan, one angle contained the living room, kitchen and dining alcove, the other bedroom, bathroom and wardrobe wall. The living room gave a very modern and airy impression. Here was Markelius' and Mogen Mogensen's piano. On the floor were Ingegerd Torhamn's modernist ryama rugs and on the ceiling above the desk was the adjustable Triplex lamp. There was also a wheeled recliner, a desk with newspaper compartments on the gable, tubular steel chairs and the armchairs of the auction. All the furniture and the interior were made by Nordiska Kompaniet.
