Small 8vo (170x115 mm. binding). (1)-718, (54, 2 blanks) pp. Several woodcut illustrations in text. Slightly worn near contemporary full calf, covers with gilt decorations, renovated spine in eight compartments, red edges. New endpapers. Some faint dampstaining, mostly in margins, some minor spots in text, some of the last pages in the index are shaved.

Gerolamo Cardano or Girolamo Cardan (1501-76), famous Italian mathematician, physician and astrologist, Professor in Mathematics in Milano 1534 and later in Medicine in Pavia. This is his famous work about natural phenomena, it deals with cosmology, physics, cryptology, machines construction, natural sciences (minerals, plants and animals), medicine, mathematics. Scientific experiments and inventions are reported and described, as well as curiosities and prodigies.
