In the exhibition 40 pieces were exhibited with motifs from Holland and Lillehammer. There is no catalogue from the exhibition, but there is plenty of photo documentation.

Frits Thaulow, one of Norway's most internationally known artists, made himself appreciated and liked both at home and on the continent during his artistic career. Thaulow studied at the Konstakademie in Copenhagen in 1870 -72, after which he went on to study for the Norwegian landscape and marine painter Hans Gude in Karlsruhe, Germany. After choosing to devote himself entirely to landscape painting, he went to Paris in 1875, where he was greatly impressed by Jules Bastien Lepage's realism and by the depictions of the watercolor painter Charles Daubigny. Another inspirer was Carl Skånberg, who was part of the early Swedish group of outdoor painters who had applied to France in the mid-1870s. Thaulow made many trips in France, but also to Belgium, Holland and the United States. In France he was long sojourners in Normandy, including in Dieppe. Despite Thaulow's impressions of Impressionism, throughout his oeuvre, he maintained a more academic naturalism in his works. The contours of the landscape were thus allowed to remain discernible and the nature less dissolved. Sometimes his style has been called a mixture of realistic and impressionistic landscape painting.
In the years 1875-1905, France was Thaulow's second homeland, alongside a frequent contact with Norway. In 1905, he planned to go there to depict nature in winter scruff in December. But before he reached Norway, he spent the beautiful and dramatic autumn months, September to November, in Holland. There he stayed first in Dordrecht and later in Overschie, on the outskirts of Rotterdam. During this stay, the work in question was painted. Here Thaulow's characteristic technique and sense of the changes and colours of nature are seen in a very successful way.
