MISSALE ROMANUM. Missale secundum morem sancta Romane Ecclesie,
Venice, J. Hamann for Nicolaus of Frankfurt, 1493.
8vo (150x103 mm.). (12), 140 (recte 242) ll. Woodcut device in red at the end, full-page woodcut [of the Crucifixion] with old hand-colouring and numerous printed musical scores. Entirely printed in red and black, the beautiful canon woodcut in old colouring (leaf lower outer corner restored with minimal loss). The blank spaces for initials are filled with red handpainted initials. At the beginning and the end are some inserted white contemporary sheets (first with old inscription). Title with old French ecclesiastical stamp (Bibliotheca Domus Biturigensis), lower outer corner restored with loss of a few letters verso, last few leaves stained to inner margin, one with corner restored and with some loss of letters, one leaf repaired to outer margin and some letters shaved, last leaf with device mounted on paper. Otherwise only with minor spotting, some soiling to margins.
16th century blindstamped (French ?) calf, edges gilt and decorated, split outer joint, slight wear, metal fittings and clasps, (loosely inserted in an envelope (=easily restorable)), gilt and gauffered edges.
