tapestry technique in wool and silk, border with arabesques and coats of arms.
The woven tapestry is made after the painting by Charles le Brun, painted at the request of Louis XIV in 1660-1661, which can be found at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris. The motif depicts Alexander the Great with his general and favorite Hephaistion, in front of the tent of the Persian king Darius. Darius' mother throws herself at the feet of the king of Macedonia, the victor over her son in the battle of Issus (333 BC), to plead for mercy for her captive family.
