HISTORY The robust construction, simple lines and natural materials of Børge Mogensen's "Spanish chair" make it one of the most significant Danish design pieces of furniture from the 20th century. Mogensen designed the chair after a trip to Spain, where he was inspired by robust, traditional furniture with heavy armrests.
These generous armrests eliminate the need for a table. Form follows function in what became one of Mogensen's most acclaimed designs. Only three chairs were made for the Copenhagen Carpenters' Association exhibition in 1958, and this is one of the this three.
The chair has visible pin and key parts which highlights the quality of manufacture, Mogensen worked with Dahlqvist, one of the most skilled saddle makers, who used only the highest quality untreated vegetable dyed leather which over time developed this amazing color and patina.
