8vo. 210 x 128 mm. (2), V-XL, 477; (2), V-XII, 556; (2), I-VIII, V-XIV, 41-42, 1-600; (2), III-VIII, 542 pp. 4 engraved titles. 27 folding plates, of which 24 hand-coloured. Rather worn rebacked contemporary calf with original spines laid on. Tears and repairs in folds of a few plates. Some offsetting. Foxing at end of volume II. Book plate of Francis Frederick Fox. 4 volumes.
Lacks the rare printed titles. Volume III in the first issue with irregular pagination in the beginning.
The plates are by George Cruikshank. William Henry Ireland (1777-1835), most famous for his forgeries of Shakespeare documents. After having been exposed he sustained himself mainly as a Grub Street writer.
Repaired bindings, some foxing, minor damage to a few plates.
