This Is Us

Stockholms Auktionsverk is the world’s oldest auction house, with the largest number of branches in Sweden and an international presence in both Germany and Finland. Founded in 1674, it serves as a trading floor for Swedish and international cultural history. As of autumn 2025, Uppsala Auktionskammare – one of the Nordic region’s most prominent and successful auction houses – is fully integrated into Stockholms Auktionsverk.

As the world’s oldest auction house, Stockholms Auktionsverk rests on an impressive cultural heritage and a dizzying history. We have sold eras such as Baroque, Rococo and Gustavian when these were contemporary. Among our many noted customers through the centuries we find Karl XI, Gustav III, Carl Michael Bellman, August Strindberg and Selma Lagerlöf. It is a cultural heritage that we carry with pride and respect. The auction house’s history of over 350 years grounds our business model in solid long-term thinking and a vision of circularity – a valuable contribution in a time when authenticity is becoming increasingly important. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of our DNA – and we are now embarking on our next 350 years and a new trajectory of growth.

On June 26, 2025, we proudly announced that Stockholms Auktionsverk had acquired Uppsala Auktionskammare – one of the Nordic region’s leading auction houses, with a history dating back to 1731. This cultural and historical milestone unites Sweden’s oldest and most prestigious auction traditions under the Stockholms Auktionsverk brand. Together, we are shaping the auction house of the future – offering the most comprehensive range of quality auctions in the Nordics, backed by the country’s largest and most distinguished team of specialists.

Today, Stockholms Auktionsverk is owned by Auctionet, whose auction platform has over 1 million registered buyers from over 180 countries. Our unique blend of profound auction heritage and digital scale is truly unrivalled.

However, our world is largely about personal meetings. At the largest number of branches and the largest floor area, we ensure that each customer gets in touch with a selected specialist. These meetings not infrequently take place at the more decisive events of life. With respect and sensitivity, we advise and serve through both estates and estate divisions as well as new purchases for the upcoming life chapter. Through our hands, the objects travel further through history to new owners. That sense of long-termism is only born through knowledge of the objects and care for the customers. We are passionate about what we do and love to share our expertise. That dedication, in turn, creates professional pride, which is proven by the fact that our employees stay for a very long time. Because it is the people behind the success numbers that create the company’s foundation. We always put the customer at the center and take our values very seriously: Knowledge, Customer focus, Respect & Innovation. This has proven to be clear to our customers who perceive us as safe and professional.

Having a long history does not mean we get comfortable, we are highly motivated to take all the small extra steps to ensure we drive the best deal and experience for our customers, sellers and buyers alike.

Our vision and mission is to take our natural role as a leader into delivering the high-quality circular marketplace of the future. Combining tradition and innovation, we set new standards to be the obvious choice for collectors and sellers. In this way, a curated and inspiring universe is created where cultural heritage is valued and generations meet.
