Stockholms Auktionsverk Presents

The Vega Expedition Collection

A unique live auction presenting Louis Palander af Vega’s private collection from the Vega Expedition 1878–1880 – history’s first complete voyage through the Northeast Passage. This is one of the most significant polar collections ever offered at auction in Sweden.

After more than 100 years in the care of the family, the collection contains a remarkable array of materials: diaries, deck logs, photographs, nautical charts, and letters, all directly connected to one of the 19th century’s most dramatic exploration journeys.

The collection offers a unique insight into Louis Palander’s role as captain of the Vega, his photographic documentation of the expedition, and his extensive correspondence with notable figures including Fridtjof Nansen, Ernest Shackleton, Sven Hedin, Alfred Nobel, and King Oscar II.
