Olov Barve
There are a few names in modern Swedish silversmithing that one simply ought to know — Olov Barve is one of them. He was born in Stockholm in 1930, the year of the great exhibition, and after finishing school he enrolled at Konstfack, where he studied under Erik Flemming. In 1956 he graduated and went on to establish a workshop in Visby together with Inga-Britt “Ibe” Dahlquist.
At Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5, we are now treated to a generous selection of Barve’s silver artistry. The chosen works span half a century of craftsmanship and display a remarkable aesthetic range.
Particularly noteworthy is the small four-piece coffee set — Barve’s journeyman’s piece. But the theme also includes a variety of other creations, such as jewellery, vases, and a money clip.
