Kjell Jörstedt’s world of imagery is dark, stripped-down – even lugubrious, some might say. Yet it is also captivating, quietly hypnotic, and at times almost devotional.

Jörstedt studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm between 1969 and 1974, and it is mainly from the 1970s and the following decade that the works now presented by Stockholms Auktionsverk Sickla are drawn. With Jörstedt as our guide, we go to the disco, inquire about the man in the bed, and take our seat in the schoolroom.
