The objects date from around 1880–1960 and encompass weapons, utilitarian items, as well as objects with ritual or ceremonial significance. Among the most remarkable pieces are an axe from Naraguta in Nigeria, a staff associated with the Baoule people of the Ivory Coast, and a beautifully crafted necklace from Niger intended to protect the wearer from evil and bring good fortune.
