Weapons & Militaria

Stockholms Auktionsverk Magasin 5 has become something of an armoury.A watering hole, an oasis for collectors with a passion for history. With welcome regularity, they have presented catalogues featuring curated selections of edged weapons, firearms, matching accessories, and historical curiosities. And now it’s time once again. Welcome to the Spring Arms Auction!
A total of 101 lots are on offer, including rifles, pistols, a mighty blunderbuss, revolvers, sabres, rapiers, and Japanese edged weapons. You’ll also find orders and medals, hunting hangers – and even an old ceremonial shield.
For connoisseurs of early firearms, the auction presents a 17th-century wheellock rifle with an octagonal barrel and a cock shaped as a stylised animal head. Of comparable calibre (well, almost) is a Carolean cavalry officer’s sword adorned with the mirrored monogram of Charles XII – a particularly fine piece dating from around 1700.
Perhaps these two highlights are rivalled by the De Brummer pistols, a pair of flintlock pistols featuring fluted breeches and signed, engraved locks. These weapons are documented in the literature, and their maker, gunsmith David Bars, is a respected figure in Swedish arms history.
