The Swedish Club in Paris: Part II
This themed auction is a continuation of the acclaimed sale “Svenska klubben, Paris – a history of art”, which became one of Stockholms Auktionsverk’s white glove sales in 2025. Now, additional works from this prestigious collection are offered – and, as before, all lots will be sold without reserve prices.
Since the late 19th century, generations of Swedish artists have sought inspiration in France. In the circles around Barbizon and Grez-sur-Loing, names such as Carl Larsson, Alfred Wahlberg, and Allan Österlind were active. Several of them were part of the Opponents and in 1886 founded the Konstnärsförbundet, a pivotal step in the modernisation of Swedish artistic life.
Svenska klubben, rooted in the Svensk-Norska Sällskapet founded in 1891, became a natural meeting place for artists, scientists, and cultural figures. Later modernists such as Isaac Grünewald, Einar Jolin, and Nils von Dardel, inspired by the Parisian avant-garde, also gathered here.
Through donations and acquisitions, the collection grew organically – from works by Anders Zorn to later generations of artists – and became a living archive of Swedish-French cultural connections, now finding new homes across the world.
We invite you to explore the auction and place your bids on your favourites from this remarkable Swedish-French art legacy!
