Spring Auction

Stockholms Auktionsverk Helsinki presents the International Spring Auction! In a richly filled catalogue featuring over 260 lots, we are offered a varied selection of top-class art and antiques.
A masterpiece almost in a class of its own is Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s captivating work “Light and Shadow”, created at a time when the artist stood on the threshold of modernism and its new directions. Among the auction’s highlights is also Elin Danielson-Gambogi’s summery portrait of a young girl, painted in 1885—a work bearing strong influences from the French plein air painting Danielson-Gambogi had been exploring in the preceding years.
From the same period comes a depiction of the America’s Cup by Oscar Kleineh, whose diagonal composition captures a dramatic moment in the race. Considerably more tranquil is Albert Edelfelt’s “At Sea” and Helene Schjerfbeck’s male portrait in charcoal on paper. Pekka Halonen’s gently rendered scene of two children on a beach from 1913 is another piece that must be mentioned in the same breath.
Alongside the fine art is a silver section featuring several high-quality pieces, and among the decorative arts, a malachite and gilt bronze table clock from the mid-19th century stands out as something truly exceptional. In the jewellery section, a pendant with a brilliant-cut diamond of 3.60 ct is a particularly striking highlight.
All of this is just a taste of the rich offering in the International Spring Auction at Stockholms Auktionsverk Helsinki.
Welcome!
