Fine Art and Antiques
The auction season at Stockholms Auktionsverk Hamburg is starting in March with a curated sale of selected treasures. This time, the highlights include exceptional silver items, such as the presentation inkwell by the Grachev brothers, who, alongside Fabergé, belong to the most important purveyors to the Tsar’s court. The offer includes a Russian kovsh in the shape of a boat by Victor Savinkov, as well as an exceptional silver cutlery set from the ‘Edition Elysée’, which is used for state banquets in the Elysée Palace.
Connoisseurs of fine antiques can expect an 18th-century Louis XV pendulum clock, exquisitely crafted Baroque furniture, and selected Asian art. The paintings on offer range from masterpieces of the early 18th century through large-format landscapes and marine paintings of the 19th century up to works of Modern and Contemporary Art. These include paintings by Jacob van Hal, Abraham Hulk, Vilhelm Arnesen, Müller-Kurzwelly, and Gustav Kluge, as well as sought-after editions by Josef Albers and Niki de Saint Phalle.
A standout example of figurative bronze is Gerhard Marcks’ “Stehende im Hemd,” from 1956. Marcks is considered one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century, having broken away from Expressionism and developed his own distinct style.
