Contemporary full calf binding, boards with the coat-of-arms of Jacques Auguste de Thou [Jac. August. Thuanus], his arms as a bachelor, and with his monogram to the spine, the spine renovated with older gilt spine mounted, corners repaired, red edges. Bookplate of Swedish famous collector Victor von Stedingk and with his pencil notes on first free endpaper. Some slight foxing and soiling, dampstain to inner margin to first title.
Provenance: Jacques Auguste de Thou (1553-1617), French historian and politician. De Thou was amongst others director of the Royal Library from 1593, and also had a large library of his own, which continued to be developed after his death by friends and family until 1680, when it was sold and dispersed; Victor von Stedingk (1899-1983); Sven Borgström (1927-1923).
