Marked with label Magdalena Abakanowicz “PAPILLON DE NUIT” 132 x 200 1977 and signature
Magdalena Abakanowicz (Poland 1930 - 2017) is one of the contemporary art scene's brightest shining stars, as we move between arts and crafts. Her textile sculptural works have today many collectors. She studied painting at the Academy of Arts in Warsaw in 1950-55, but worked substantially with textiles. It was during the 60s that Abakanowicz made a big impact on the international art scene, as a pioneer with a textile innovation. She often used unconventional materials such as sisal and hemp and worked sculpturally, spatially and monumentally. In 1970, she exhibited at Södertälje Konsthall. She has had more than 40 solo exhibitions around the world and most recently at Tate Modern in London.
