The supposed author, Horapollo (or Horus Apollo), is said to have been one of the last leaders of Egyptian priesthood and living in the 5th century A. D. He wrote a treatise titled Hieroglyphica, which was probably translated into Greek by one Phlippus. The present work, ´De sacris notis & sculpturis...´ may have been a work of the translator. The woodcuts attributed to Jean Cousin or Jean Goujon.
