4to. 270 x 220 mm. xii, 457 pp. With 2 engraved portraits, 6 engraved plates and 5 folding engraved maps. Blue later half calf with gilt spine and marbled boards. Small damage to spine. Label and stamps of The American Museum of Natural History (cancelled). A few minor stains, occasional foxing. Offsetting from engravings on adjacent text.
Thomas Thomson (1773-1852), Scottish chemist. His main topics are mineralogy and mining, but he takes interest in other matters as well, e. g. the British misconception of the former Swedish king Gustav III.
