Lacking engraved frontispiece and first title leaf, second title with engraved vignette, and 19 (14 + 5) folding engraved plates (lacking 1 plate [nb 20], some spotting).
Old leather binding, rebacked with red title label, partly worn, corners bumbed, some worming. Dedication leaf frayed, partly browning and soiling, about 20 pages loose.

Giovanni Alfonso Borelli (28 January 1608 - 31 December 1679) was a Renaissance Italian physiologist, physicist, and mathematician. His major scientific achievements are focused around his investigation into biomechanics. This work originated with his studies of animals. Borelli´s publications, De Motu Animalium, relate animals to machines and utilize mathematics to prove his theories. During his career, he enjoyed the patronage of Queen Christina of Sweden.
