A PAIR OF POLYCHROME AND GILT ENAMELED 'DRAGON' CHARGERS, molded with a flared rim to the wide curving well displaying two dragons and the flaming pearl painted in iron red and gilt while the clouds are rendered in the opaque famille rose enamels that repeat in three floral sprays on the exterior walls, the mark on the recessed base written in iron red regular script, Guangxu six-character mark and of the period (1875-1908), diameter c. 40 cm

Purchased in China, by the Swedish businessman Axel Mellin (1884-1947), during late 19th/early 20th century.
