PHOTOGRAPHS UNITED STATES 1915. Photograph album of a journey through United States 1915. Private photograph album of a journey to United States of America 1915 with 177 black and white prints and 90 postcards, the photographs mainly with handwritten captions. 25 card board leaves with 267 images, 2 pasted passenger list, 1 pasted flower, 2 pasted menus, 1 pasted ticket, all dated 1915 & 2 loose photographs from Corinto, Nicaragua dated 1922.

Oblong folio (235x315 mm.). Leather album with blindtooled cover. The cover a bit worn and rubbed, the interior in overall very good condition, edges a bit rubbed. In some cases it´s hard to tell if the photographs are shot in person or an original photographic postcard since they are all pasted to the pages, when obvious that the picture is a photographic postcard it has here been described as postcard.

Album depicting the journey through United States of Nils Johan Ljungzell (1885-1964), Swedish shipbuilder, engineer and later professor of shipbuilding at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The albums first photograph has the caption "A Frisco-recipient 1915" and it seems as Ljungzell´s traveled on a scholarship to visit the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. He embarked on his journey in May and traveled back in August 1915. The albums first 9 pages depicts the journey from Bergen, Norway to New York with the ship "Bergensfjord", with pictures from Norway, life on the ship itself and England. The following photographs depicts such places as New York, Boston, The Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago, Grand Canyon (with a pasted flower), Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis and concludes with the trip back with the ship "United States". The album contains scenery, street scenes and portraits with captions, mostly in Swedish but some in English, such as "American Society of Swedish engineers, 271 Hick Street, Brooklyn", "Indians at the San Diego Fair", "Ruins from the San Francisco earthquake of 1906", "St. Louis: Nigger-babies", "Parade, 5 July 1915 , Denver", "At the border to Mexico at Tijuana", "Sawmill in Seattle", and "The Liberty Bell arrives at San Francisco 1915".
